WESTERVILLE – The Genoa Township Police Department is targeting speeders who are using neighborhood streets to avoid construction closures.

Early Friday, Chief Steve Gammill wrote a Facebook post saying that his department is aware of speeding in the Highland Lakes/St. Andrews. Problems have increased in the area with more cars using that as a detour from Worthington Rd. Construction.

Police will be increasing speed enforcement in that area, as well as other areas affected by the construction. Police will dedicate officers to running radar during specific times. Specific enforcement times and locations were not specified.

Traffic in the area is affected by a project by the Delaware County Engineer to revamp the intersection of Worthington Road and Africa Road.

The project includes short-term closures of Africa Road followed by a five-month closure of Worthington Road to southbound traffic between Highland Lakes Ave. and Africa Road starting spring 2022. Northbound traffic is maintained.

When complete, Worthington Road will have five lanes through Africa Road, with additional turn lanes on Africa Road. The project began in October 2020.
