WESTERVILLE – A man driving a stolen U-Haul drove off with a trailer that didn’t belong to him, according to a Westerville police report.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. on June 7 at Cardinal Storage at 415 Maxtown Road.

According to the police report, a man driving a U-Haul pulled into the secure parking area, using a generic code to get through the gate. He went up to an American Hauler Nighthawk enclosed tandem axle trailer, hooked it up to the truck, and drove off.

Police tracked the entry code back to a contractor who frequently does work for the storage facility. The owner of that company said he has recently hired new subcontractors.

Video footage showed the suspect was a white male wearing a green and black shirt, a dark baseball hat, jeans, and black boots. He had medium length hair, and a patchy beard.

The U-Haul truck was reported stolen from the U-Haul Facility at 5909 Westerville Road earlier on June 7.
