WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Dash camera video shows a Westerville police cruiser rammed by a driver during the start of a chase last week.
The incident started around 2:39 a.m. on May 6. when officers were called to a neighborhood near County Line Road and McCorkle Blvd on a report of teens trying door handles and breaking into cars.
Video shows a responding officer encounter three vehicles stopped on McCorkle Blvd. Those vehicles speed off and pull into the nearby post office parking lot.
Officers then approached with lights activated, blocking exits from the lot. One car managed to get by an officer, and a Jeep jumped over a grass berm to get away.
The third car, a Honda Accord, hit a police car head-on before reversing and going out another exit. Officers tried to hold the driver at gunpoint, but the car sped off anyway.
The chase went through several residential areas. Officers reported traveling more than 100mph on several occasions during the chase. The Accord was traveling at an estimated 120mph at times.
The suspect’s car was last seen at the 270/161 ramp on Sunbury Road. The chase was called off at that point, as officers couldn’t see which ramp the suspect used.
No arrests were made.
