WESTERVILLE – A Plain City man was jailed on inducing panic charges, accused ripping a fire alarm off a wall and trashing a hotel room.
It happened just before 5 p.m. on May 6 at the Red Roof Inn on South State Street, near I-270.
According to a police report, officers responded to a report of a man ripping the fire alarm off an outside wall of the hotel. A 911 caller also reported hearing glass breaking inside a room.
Officers found the 30-year-old suspect sitting on a curb in the hotel parking lot. The man told police that he drank six beers and got angry about his boss not paying him. He said he trashed his room and ripped the fire alarm off in a fit of anger.
The suspect told officers that he figured his boss would have to pay for the damages, since his credit card was attached to the room.
The hotel manager declined to press charges for the damage, but wanted the man removed from the property. According to the report, the man told police that he had nowhere to go and would come back and keep kicking the door if they didn’t take him to jail.
He was arrested for inducing panic and taken to the Franklin County Jail.
